Spring 2010 Funded Grants

Hawthorne Elementary and Pleasant Run Elementary:
Diane Buchannan received a $498 grant for a "Wedding Reception for Math and Reading" for each school. Kindergarten through fourth grade students and parents will attend evening demonstrations that connect math and reading. Books and learning materials will be supplied for station activities and will be sent home for continued learning. Guest readers will use math stories to address skills such as counting, adding and making change. Wedding cake and punch will be served at the end of the evening.

Liberty Park Elementary:
A $500 grant for Laura Bigoss's "Fun and Friendly Reading" request will supply a special reading area for students in the media center. Supplies include a fishing pond rug, a camping tent and hedgehog bean bags for relaxing reading time. Fifteen hand puppets and a storage stand will also be included for this relatively new media center.
